Study Will Chart Changes in Consumer Attitudes & Behaviors Beginning March 2009

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA, January 28, 2009 – Dechert-Hampe Consulting and Strategic Marketing Sciences have announced the formation of a new strategic research initiative, the 2009 Emerging Consumer Consortium, which will provide the first definitive data on how the current economic crisis has altered consumer needs, attitudes and behaviors.

The Emerging Consumer Consortium (ECC) is a forward-looking initiative and has been designed for manufacturers and retailers, dedicated to developing a dynamic attitudinal and behavioral consumer model for the future. It will provide insights and strategies to address the critical question of what consumers will buy, where and why. Additionally, segment- based modeling will be conducted every six months over a two-year period and will establish a precise understanding of how customers will evolve in 2010 and beyond.

According to Strategic Marketing Sciences (SMS) Project Director Hoss Tabrizi, Emerging Consumer Consortium (ECC) members will include major CPG manufacturers and retailers, as well as leaders in other consumer products industries. “Companies have a lot at stake in this tough economic environment; as members of the ECC, our clients will understand how consumers will react to their specific brands and marketing strategies, providing them with a significant competitive advantage.”

Dan Graham of Dechert-Hampe (DHC) agrees, and points to the study’s adaptability to specific product, brands and channels as a factor that is resonating with many companies. “They are asking themselves how closely they can pinpoint these trends so they can make very specific strategic and tactical decisions. We are offering them the opportunity to opt- in to that level of specificity.”

The ECC study will begin in March 2009 and continue through 2011.
Recruitment for the 2009 Emerging Consumer Consortium is underway. Interested parties are invited to call:
